News of the bells

All Saints’ long expected new bell ropes have arrived (June 2019).  As each rope is handmade to order you sometimes have to wait a year or more but new makers have recently come into the market so ours, made in Bristol, only took six months.

Our thanks to Dot Holloway, a retired ringer, who having read about the new ropes sent a generous donation.  We’re spring cleaning the belfry before hanging the ropes but when we do we’ll designate one as Dot’s Rope.

At the monthly area practice at Ashbury, Faringdon was represented by only two ringers so could hardly brag but general attendance was low.  Ashbury bells are anticlockwise which means they are hung in the tower in the reverse order to most towers.  No problem if you’re used to it but it’s like having the top notes of a keyboard on the left.  Can be very confusing !

We rang for a joyous international wedding that was relayed to the bride’s grandmother who was unable to get here from Jamaica.

Christian Aid Week began with ringing for an evening Songs of Praise on 12th May.

Whether or not you would like to try ringing we would love to welcome you to visit Sunday service ringing (9.45-10.30am) or Monday practice (7.30-9.00pm). If you come late to a practice there is an illuminated bell push by the door.
